Attorney Tom Schaefer received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated cum laude and achieved the Dean’s Honor List and the National Dean’s List. He then received his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University in Los Angeles, California. While in law school, Mr. Schaefer received the American Jurisprudence Awards in Insurance Law and Legal Profession (Ethics) and graduated in the top 10% of his class. He also studied comparative law at Oxford University, England, receiving a 4.0 GPA.
During law school, Mr. Schaefer worked for a law office in Beverly Hills, California, and an insurance defense firm in downtown Los Angeles, California. He also clerked for Judge Stephen Czulegar of the Los Angeles Superior Court in downtown Los Angeles, California. After law school, Mr. Schaefer operated his own practice and handled matters involving personal injury, workers’ compensation, class action lawsuits, products liability, and corporate law. He then worked as an insurance defense attorney for a total of ten years beginning with a globally recognized insurance company, and later moving to a couple of large law firms in the Atlanta area.
Schaefer Law Group, LLC was founded by Mr. Tom Schaefer, who now prides himself on the ability to go home thinking about how many people he helped, rather than how many hours he billed. Mr. Schaefer selects only a limited number of clients and typically meets with every one of them personally. He will handle your case personally, rather than passing it off to an associate or paralegal, which is often the norm with so many of the larger personal injury firms. He is also willing to meet clients after hours or on Saturday. His office is closed on Sunday, as Mr. Schaefer attends church activities at Christian City Church and 12 Stone Church, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Mr. Schaefer is licensed to practice law in Georgia and California, and he is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Gwinnett County Bar Association, and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
During his spare time, Mr. Schaefer is an avid motorcycle rider and competes in motorcycle land speed racing. In his latest endeavors, he has won the Motorcycle Points Championship for the past three years in a row at the East Coast Timing Association, which is essentially the east coast version of the Bonneville Salt Flats. The racing is done on an old World War II airstrip where the vehicles and motorcycles are allowed to run as fast as they can in one mile from a standing start.
